Saint Benedict’s Abbey

Benefiting from energy considerations (but not inspired by them), this earth-bermed, below-grade monastery church evolved through my admonishing the monks that if they hired a Jewish architect Christ would go “underground.” The lozenge juxtaposition refers back to earlier paintings and sculptures of mine. The structure, the lighting and, most predominantly, the cross aisles reinforce the image of the crucifix such that the congregation, when queued up for communion, forms a cross, supporting the concept of the church is the people.
