The intention of Urban Matrix was to create a total-environment extended from the center city, but in such a manner that it could expand in all directions uninhibited by barriers at any side. This segmented tetrahedral form could be built on water rights, yet satisfy the light and air requirements of a human environment and provide commercial, recreational and residential areas. The form is designed with a buoyant sub-structure, which is anchored to the water bottom by high strength aluminum cable. A constant positive buoyancy is maintained through a wench mechanism in the substructure. The structure is made of the many varieties of aluminum to satisfy the weight-strength problems. Urban Matrix can be seen as a total and diverse environment.
